MLB Baseball Betting: New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays are doing what they need to do at this critical point of the season. They’ve won the first three games of this four game set against the New York Yankees and have been victorious in 7 of their last 10 games. The problem is that they can’t make up any ground in the divisional race with Boston continuing to play red hot baseball. The Red Sox have won 11 straight games and maintain a 5.5 game lead over the Jays. The Orioles are in third place 7 games behind the Red Sox while the New York Yankees are slumping having lost 8 of 10.
Toronto will start lefthander J.A. Happ who has regained the solid form he demonstrated earlier in the season. Overall, he’s got a 3.28 ERA and a 1.169 WHIP, a 3.05 ERA and a 1.185 WHIP at home with a L3 ERA of 2.65 and a 1.059 WHIP. The Blue Jays have won 23 of his 30 starts overall including 12 of 14 at home. He’s also 3-0 in his last three starts. He’s a tough matchup for the Yankees who h ave struggled against left handers this season. They’re 21-26 -4.6 units averaging only 3.8 runs per game. New York was shut down by Francisco Liriano on Friday and Happ has been on a different level this year.
The Yankees will start right hander Luis Severino and he’s struggled badly all season long. He’s started 9 games this year and the Yankees have lost them all. Overall, he’s got a 8.58 ERA and a 1.744 WHIP, on the road he’s got a 8.35 ERA and a 1.800 WHIP. In his last three starts he’s got a brutal 16.03 ERA and a 2.530 WHIP. Worth noting that one of his three starts was back in May but he’s been just as bad in two August starts going 8 innings allowing 15 hits and 12 earned runs. The strange thing about Severino is his solid performance out of the bullpen–3-0 with a 0.39 ERA in 11 games and 23 1/3 innings in relief. The Blue Jays have pounded right handed pitching this year to the tune of 5.0 runs per game. The valuations have been high so they’re right at ‘break even’ but they’ve got a record of 64-49.
No line as of yet but the Blue Jays are the play here.
