MLB Baseball Betting: Arizona Diamondbacks at Toronto Blue Jays
The Toronto Blue Jays will be glad to be back on their home field at the Rogers Centre after their weekend set in Baltimore didn’t go their way. The Orioles managed to cool the Jays’ bats, at least somewhat, as they took two of three games from Toronto. That leaves Toronto in third place with a 39-33 record and three games back of first place Baltimore and 2 back of second place Boston. They’ll host a National League opponent in this early week series as they welcome the Arizona Diamondbacks to town. The Diamondbacks have won four straight thanks to the wretched play of the Philadelphia Phillies. They’re still in fourth place in the NL West 3.5 games up on the last place San Diego Padres and 1 game back of the third place Colorado Rockies.
Toronto will start right hander Marco Estrada and they’ve had a good deal of success with him on the mound of late. The Jays have a record of 8-5 when Estrada starts but they’ve won his last six assignments. They’ve also won 4 of his six home starts and his last three. Overall, he’s got a 2.58 ERA with a 0.985 WHIP. At home, he’s put up a 1.77 ERA and a 0.085 WHIP. He’ll be opposed by veteran lefthander Pat Corbin and like the rest of the Diamondbacks he’s been much better on the road this season than at home. Overall, he’s got a 4.77 ERA and a 1.353 WHIP with the Diamondbacks winning 9 of his 14 starts. On the road, however, they’ve won 5 of 7 Corbin starts and he’s posted a 2.66 ERA. They’re 1-2 in his last three assignments as the southpaw has put up a 4.12 ERA.
The Jays haven’t been great against left handed pitching this year (10-11) but they’ve been hitting the ball so well lately that’s not of much relevance. Seriously, that record isn’t suggestive that they’ll have problem with a lefty of Corbin’s level. He’s not exactly Sandy Koufax. Not sure if Arizona’s good recent play is legit or simply because they were up against the Philadelphia Phillies. At any rate, Corbin is a pitcher the Jays should be able to hit and Arizona is a team that they should be able to beat.
