MLB Baseball Betting: Baltimore Orioles at Toronto Blue Jays
The Boston Red Sox have clinched the division meaning that the Toronto Blue Jays are left to scrap for one of the two American League wild card spots. So far so good for the Jays as they hold the top wild card spot with a one game lead over the Baltimore Orioles even after Wednesday’s 3-2 loss at the Rogers Centre. Here’s the situation: the Jays have 4 games left and there’s plenty of teams lined up behind them in the wild card race. The Jays are one game up on the second wild card team, Baltimore. The Detroit Tigers are 1.5 games behind the Orioles, the Mariners are 2 games back, the Astros are 3.5 games back and the Yankees are 4 games back. Every other team has been officially eliminated from postseason contention.
What looked like a nasty draw a few weeks ago might be very fortuitous for the Toronto Blue Jays. After this game the Jays have a three game series with the AL East champion Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox had won 11 straight but have lost 2 straight though backed into the divisional title on Wednesday with the Jays’ loss. Baltimore will finish the season against the New York Yankees who have won 3 straight and look to be putting up a feisty battle at the end of the schedule. The Red Sox could have less urgent motivations this weekend with the title in the bag.
The two starters for this game–Baltimore’s Ubaldo Jimenez and Toronto’s Marcus Stroman–have been mediocre at best this season but have looked better in their last three starts with an ERA in the 2’s. Toronto has handled the Jays at the Rogers Centre this season winning 6 of 9 matchups. But given the fact that both teams hit right handed pitching well and given the similar form of the starters the price on this game sure seems high. There’s also a lot of urgency to win for both teams. Both pitchers have been in good form but not ones we want to trust with a big price. Overall, this game looks a lot more like a ‘coin flip’ than the price would suggest. We’ll take a sizable price with the road team.
