MLB Baseball Betting: New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays&h=235&w=320&zc=1

The good news: the Toronto Blue Jays beat the New York Yankees 3-0 on Saturday. The bad news: the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles also won meaning that the seedings in the AL East are essentially the same. The Red Sox hold a 5.5 game lead over the Blue Jays and a 7 game lead over the Orioles. The Yankees are pretty much out of business at this point 11.5 games off the lead. The wild card standings have changed somewhat–the Jays are still in control with the top wild card spot but the Baltimore Orioles have moved into the second wild card spot by virtue of their win and Detroit’s loss. The O’s are 1.5 games behind Toronto and one game ahead of Detroit. Also within range–Houston and Seattle are 2 games back, the New York Yankees are 3 games back and Kansas City are 5.5 games back.

Toronto can’t afford to lose any games at this point. They may have missed their opportunity to catch Boston since the Red Sox are playing their best baseball of the season right now having won 10 straight. The wild card is just too competitive to let any victories get away. After this series the Jays have six games left and all are important—they play 3 games at home against Baltimore and conclude the season with 3 games at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox. The Jays have outscored the Yankees 12-0 in the first two game of the series and they’ve got to keep the pressure on in the final two games of the set.

The Yankees will start right hander Michael Pineda–he’s looked better of late but for the year he’s got a 4.89 ERA and the Yankees have split has 30 starts. Toronto will counter with Marco Estrada who has had his moments this year but is roughly in the same boat as Pineda but with a superior ERA. His ERA is 3.62 overall and Toronto has won 14 of his 27 starts. Not sure why the price on Toronto is 50 cents lower today than it was yesterday but today it looks like the value is on the home team. Not sure how much fight the Yankees have left.
