MLB Baseball Betting: Toronto Blue Jays at Baltimore Orioles

The Toronto Blue Jays took care of business over the weekend completing a three game home sweep of the Minnesota Twins. Now they hit the road for a very important series against the third place Baltimore Orioles. Baltimore has lost 6 of their last 10 but are still in the AL East hunt just 3 games back of the Blue Jays in third place. The Red Sox are 1.5 games behind pending the outcome of their Sunday night game against the Kansas City Royals. The New York Yankees are still in the mix–or at least on the periphery of the mix–6.5 games back in fourth place.

Toronto will start right hander Marco Estrada who has been very solid and stable for most of the season. He’s coming off a pair of bad starts, however, as he allowed 11 earned runs in nine innings of work against the LA Angels (8/24) and against the NY Yankees on the road (8/16). For the year, he’s got a 3.47 ERA with a 1.099 WHIP, a road ERA of 3.68 with a 1.037 WHIP and his last three ERA–which includes the aforementioned bad starts–is 8.36 with a 2.071 WHIP. The Jays have won 12 of his 22 starts overall including 6 of 10 on the road but they’ve lost 2 of his last 3.

Baltimore will go with left hander Wade Milley who is coming off a very good game at Washington on 8/24. Before that, however, he turned in a couple of stinkers including a disastrous outing on 8/19 against Houston where he gave up 6 ER in 1 2/3 innings of work. Overall, Miley has a 5.51 ERA and a 1.433 WHIP, a 6.00 home ERA with a 1.352 WHIP and a L3 ERA of 11.45 with a 2.182 WHIP. Despite that bloated L3 ERA the Orioles won 2 of those games. Miley started the season in Seattle and his teams have split his 24 starts including a 3-7 record at home.

Baltimore has won 4 of the 6 starts against Toronto this year though they’ve won 5 of Estrada’s 7 career starts against Baltimore. Not sure about the price on this game–Baltimore has made a lot of money at home (42-22 +15.9 units) and against right handed pitching (53-41 +9.9 units). Toronto has lost money against left handers (19-18 -5.6 units).
