MLB Baseball Betting: Toronto Blue Jays at Baltimore Orioles&h=235&w=320&zc=1

The Toronto Blue Jays beat up on Philadelphia on Thursday and now head to the ‘Charm City’ for a big weekend series against the AL East leading Baltimore Orioles. The AL East has been tightly packed for most of the season and there’s every reason to think that it’s just going to get more competitive. All five teams in the division have a .500 or better record in their last ten games so there’s plenty of parity. The hottest teams in the division are the Blue Jays (7-3 L10) and the last place Tampa Bay Rays (7-2 L10). A total of 6.5 games separates the first place Orioles from the last place Rays.

The Toronto Blue Jays were tabbed before the season as ‘the team to beat’ in the American League East. For that reason there was some concern among fans when they came out of the gate slowly. The big problem was a lack of offense and given the Jays’ performance last year that was curious to say the least. In 2015, Toronto led the Major Leagues in runs scored by a wide margin. In fact, it’s a pretty phenomenal margin as Toronto plated 891 runs–127 more than the second place New York Yankees. They also had the #2 team batting average in baseball trailing Detroit by one point. When the Jays came out of the gate pitching well but sputtering at the plate it was curious to say the least.

That’s changed dramatically in the past few weeks. They’re already up to #11 in runs scored in all of baseball and if they keep up their recent pace they’ll be on top of the table very shortly. In their last six games alone they’ve scored 50 runs. Baltimore got a much needed win on Thursday night but they’ve lost 4 of their last 6. Form is important in all betting sports but especially so in baseball. Toronto knows that they lost a lot of ground during their offensive swoon in the first weeks of the season. They’re playing well while the Orioles seem to be ‘treading water’. For that reason, we’ll back the road team and look for them to take at least two of the three games this weekend.
