MLB Baseball Betting: Toronto Blue Jays at Chicago White Sox
The Toronto Blue Jays will play the rubber game of their three game weekend series against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday after scrapping out a win on Saturday. The Blue Jays have won 6 of 10 and improved to 13-9 in the month of June. They’ll enter play today 3.5 games back of the first place Baltimore Orioles and 1.5 games back of the second place Boston Red Sox. The Chicago White Sox are not out of it in the AL Central but they need to show some improved form very quickly. They’re currently 7 games behind the first place Cleveland Indians with a record of 37-38. They’re 5-5 in their last ten games.
Toronto will start Marcus Stroman who is having a tough time of it lately. He’s been mediocre at best this season with a 5.23 ERA overall and a 4.50 road ERA. The Jays have won 8 of his 15 starts overall and 4 of 7 on the road. They’ve dropped 2 of his last three starts and his numbers have been ugly with a 7.31 ERA and 1.625 WHIP. Chicago will respond with lefthander Chris Sale who has been excellent this season. His ERA has drifted upwards from earlier in the season but the White Sox still win when he takes the mound. They’ve got a 12-3 record overall in his 15 starts including a 6-1 mark at home. They’ve also won his last three starts. Sale has a 2.83 ERA and a 0.991 WHIP for the season, a 3.89 ERA and 1.035 WHIP at home and a 4.05 ERA and a 1.200 WHIP in his last three starts.
This could be a bad matchup for Toronto. They’ve not done well against lefthanders this year averaging just 3.8 runs per game and hitting .230. Then again, the White Sox having been hitting anyone particularly well. They shouldn’t find Stroman particularly hard to hit given his recent form. Sale’s ERA isn’t great in the near term but the reality is that he’s just one of the best in the business. Sale has a 3-1 career record against Toronto with a 2.03 ERA and a 0.839 WHIP. For some reason, the White Sox have dominated Toronto in recent years going 13-6 +10.1 units overall and 6-3 +4.5 units at home. They should get a win here.
