MLB Baseball Betting: Toronto Blue Jays at Detroit Tigers

The Toronto Blue Jays are still stalking the pacesetters in the AL East and are putting themselves in a great position to ‘make a move’ as the Summer progresses. The Jays enter play today with a 31-29 record leaving them in third place just 4.5 games out. They’re still not hitting and that could be a problem later in the season. For now, they’ve managed to get by with strong pitching and defense.
They’ve got a tough challenge here as the Detroit Tigers have been in very good form lately. The Tigers have won five straight and are now just 2.5 games back of first place Cleveland in the AL Central. The Jays have already dropped the first two games of this three game set losing Monday 11-0 and Tuesday 3-2. Detroit is now 8-1 as a home favorite of between -125 and -150 good for 6.7 units of profit. That situation applies once again today.
Toronto will start R.A. Dickey who has been rounding into form after a mediocre start to the season. Dickey has been at his best on the road where he has a 2.92 ERA but the Jays have split his 6 away starts. That’s better than they’ve done at home when Dickey is on the hill–they’ve lost all six of his assignments at the Rogers Centre. Dickey will be opposed by Jordan Zimmerman who has been very sharp this year. The Tigers have won 8 of his 10 starts overall including 5 of 6 at home. They’ve also won his last three straight though he didn’t pitch great in those games. Then again, it’s not like he needs to ‘bear down’ when the Tigers’ bats put up a total of 29 runs in those three games. That’s the run support that the Jays’ hurlers can only envy.
It’s a time honored concept in Major League Baseball betting to ‘bet against a sweep’. We’d like to do that here but just don’t want to mess with Detroit and their highly potent offense. This is their best moneyline situation and Toronto simply can’t match their offense. Dickey has been pitching fairly well but it’s highly doubtful that he can stop the Tigers’ attack.
