MLB Baseball Betting: Toronto Blue Jays at New York Yankees

Another loss by the Blue Jays on Monday, this time to the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. The good news is that the Boston Red Sox also lost leaving them one game behind the Jays. The bad news is that with the Baltimore Orioles and Yankees winning the AL East is getting even more competitive. The Orioles are now just 2 games out of first with the Yankees just 5.5 games out. Toronto is now 6-4 in their last 10 games and they’re fortunate in that the Red Sox and Orioles are just 5-5 in their last 10 contests.
The Blue Jays will start Aaron Sanchez for this game and the right hander has been arguably their most consistent pitcher this season. Sanchez has a 2.94 ERA overall with a 1.170 WHIP, a 2.62 road ERA with a 1.133 WHIP and a 3.18 ERA with a 1.235 WHIP in his last three starts. Toronto is 16-9 when he starts this season including 9-5 on the road and 3-0 in his last three. He’ll be opposed by right hander Luis Cessa who has been pretty solid in limited action. Cessa has started three games this year–all Yankees’ wins. He’s got a 3.00 ERA and a 0.944 WHIP in these games.
Toronto needs to start winning some games. They’re helped by the fact that none of the rest of the teams in the division are doing particularly well but at some point they need to put some ‘W’s’ in the win column. They’ve got a three game series at home against the Boston Red Sox coming up this weekend and that could change the complexion of the division precipitously. Toronto has done well against the Yankees this season–they’ve won 9 of 13 head to head with a 4-3 record at Yankee Stadium. Over the past three seasons Toronto is 30-21 +7.8 units against New York including 15-12 +3 units.
Sanchez has been money in the bank for Toronto this season and more importantly he’s been the guy to ‘steady the ship’ when the team has been in a slump. That might not be exactly whats going on now but the Jays need a win and Sanchez should get them one.
