MLB Baseball Betting: Toronto Blue Jays at Seattle Mariners&h=235&w=320&zc=1

The good news–at the time of this writing the Blue Jays lead the Seattle Mariners 3-0 in the middle of the 4th inning. Other than that things aren’t looking good for Canada’s team. The Red Sox are already in the clubhouse with a win on Monday and have solidified their hold on first place in the AL East. Boston has a 4 game lead over the second place Baltimore Orioles and 4.5 games over the third place Blue Jays. If the Jays hold on for the win tonight they’ll be tied with the Orioles for second place 4 games back. The New York Yankees are 8.5 games out in fourth place and running out of time.

Both Baltimore and Toronto are still alive for the wild card but they’ve got plenty of competition. The Orioles are in the top spot 1/2 games ahead of the Blue Jays. If the Jays win they’ll be tied. The bad news is that they’ve got got five teams within five games. The Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners are 2 games back, the Houston Astros are 3 games back, the New York Yankees are 4 games back and the Kansas City Royals are 4.5 games back. The Mariners have been the hottest team of the group winning 8 of 10 heading into Monday’s game.

Toronto will start left hander J.A. Happ who is back in decent form after a brief slump. For the year, he’s been excellent with a 3.27 ERA overall and a 1.163 WHIP and a road ERA of 3.46 and 1.142 WHIP. He’s got a L3 ERA of 3.68 and a 1.295 WHIP. The Jays have won 22 of his 29 starts this season for a profit of +12 units making him the sixth ‘most profitable’ pitcher in baseball. They’ve won 10 of his 15 road starts and his last three. Seattle will counter with right hander Hisashi Iwakuma who has been in good form as well with a 3.87 ERA for the season, a 3.49 ERA at home and a 2.70 ERA in his last three starts. Seattle is 18-12 overall when Iwakuma starts including 8-5 at home and 2 of his last 3.

Seattle has dominated play in the ‘Jet City’ winning 5 of the last 6 games. We’ll take the home team here.
